The Currency and Banking Operations Group is led by Executive Director Ahmed Hundubey. The Group is mandated to operationalize the CBS responsibility to issue the Somali Shilling under the CBS Act of 2012. It is mandated to be both the issuing authority as well as the custodian of Somalia’s national reserve. The Group is also responsible to perform CBS duties as the fiscal agent of the government.

The National Payment System launched in July 2021 is managed by the Currency and Banking Operations Group, ensuring the smooth transactions on both ACH and RTGS platforms. The Group utilizes modern methods to provide banking services, manage foreign exchange reserves, formulate debt management strategies and undertake debt sustainability analysis.
